HEADLIGHT GUIDES FOR COLORADO DRIVERS
30 in-depth guides written for Front Range conditions — what restoration actually costs, why high-altitude UV wrecks lenses faster here, what winter magnesium chloride does to plastic, and when a lens is past saving. No fluff, no upsell.
Short answer
These guides answer the questions Colorado drivers ask before booking: why polycarbonate lenses cloud over, what restoration costs versus replacement, how long a ceramic UV sealant lasts at altitude, and when a lens is too far gone to save. Start with the cost and cause guides if you're deciding whether to restore or replace.

How do I know if my headlights need restoration or replacement?
Look at where the problem is. Cloudiness on the outer surface means restoration. A crack, a broken tab, or condensation inside the housing means replacement.
How often do headlights need restoring in Colorado?
Roughly every 2–3 years with a ceramic UV sealant, and every 4–8 months if only a consumer wipe-on sealant was used. Altitude UV shortens every interval.
Do you come to my house?
Yes. We're fully mobile within 35 miles of Commerce City and bring our own power and water.
How long does the appointment take?
30–60 minutes for most vehicles, done wherever you park.
Frequently asked questions
What grit sandpaper is used for headlight restoration?
+
A progression, not a single grit: 800 to knock down oxidation, then 1500, 2000, 2500 and 3000 to erase each previous scratch pattern before polishing.
Why do DIY kits leave headlights hazy?
+
Skipping grits leaves a scratch pattern too deep for the included polish to remove, so light scatters inside the surface. It looks hazy because it physically is.
Can DIY restoration damage a headlight?
+
Yes. Sanding through a thin section, overheating the polycarbonate with a drill attachment, or letting compound dry on textured trim are the common failures.
Is clear coat spray a good substitute for UV sealant?
+
Automotive clear coat isn't formulated to flex with a polycarbonate lens or to block UV at the level a dedicated lens coating does, and it commonly peels in sheets within a year.
Should I just replace the lens with an aftermarket assembly?
+
Cheap aftermarket assemblies often have worse beam patterns than a restored OEM lens, and they still need aiming. Replace when the lens is cracked or holding moisture — restore when it's only oxidized.
