How long does headlight restoration last?
There is no single lifespan that applies to every restored headlight. The condition of the lens, removal of the damaged surface coating, the replacement UV protection, sun exposure and aftercare all affect how long it stays clear. Colorado Headlight Restoration finishes its service with a ceramic UV sealant offering up to 3 years of protection and includes a 3-year warranty. Those are separate claims: protection describes the sealant; the warranty describes the service coverage. Neither means every lens will stay unchanged for exactly three years.
Before comparing a DIY kit, a professional restoration or replacement, check what protective coating is included and what the warranty actually covers. Exterior yellowing can be a restoration candidate; cracks and moisture inside the housing need a different assessment. Our yellow-headlights guide explains when restoration is appropriate.
What affects restored clarity?
Surface preparation and UV protection
Cleaning alone does not remove a failed coating. Our process inspects the lens, removes exterior oxidation through progressive wet sanding, polishes the surface and applies ceramic UV sealant. The protective finish is important because polishing does not itself replace the lens's UV protection. Compare the complete process rather than the immediate shine.
Sun exposure and lens condition
A vehicle parked outside receives different exposure from one kept under cover. Existing pitting, damaged coatings and scratches also affect the starting condition. Colorado's sun makes UV protection relevant, but it does not justify a promise that one coating always outlasts another by a fixed number of months.
Damage outside versus inside
Exterior restoration treats the outside surface. It cannot repair a cracked housing, remove moisture trapped inside, or fix internal fogging. If your headlights look cloudy from the inside or have deep cracks, send a photo or call before reserving service. See restoration versus DIY for the distinction between surface work and other repairs.
Up to 3 years of protection versus a 3-year warranty
Our ceramic UV sealant is stated to provide up to three years of protection. That is not a universal lifespan for every product or vehicle. Our service also includes a three-year warranty, with free re-restoration if the lenses haze again within the covered period. Ask Caleb about coverage for your vehicle and any damage before assuming a repair is covered. The warranty is not a guarantee against cracks, internal moisture or unchanged clarity in every condition.
We do not offer a lifetime-restoration claim or promise that all DIY products fail within a fixed interval. A useful comparison asks which coating is applied, how the surface is prepared, what aftercare is required and which written coverage accompanies the work.
How to care for restored headlights
- Follow the curing and washing instructions provided with your service; products have different requirements.
- Clean gently with soap, water and a soft towel rather than abrasive scrubbing.
- Avoid abrasive polishes and harsh cleaners that could disturb the protective finish.
- Use covered parking or shade when practical.
- Check for returning haze or physical damage, and contact Caleb before polishing away the sealant or adding another coating.
Routine care is not a promise of extra years. We do not prescribe a universal re-coating schedule: ask about the finish already on your headlights before applying another product.
DIY kit or professional restoration?
A kit may suit someone who has time to prepare the surface and follow the product instructions. Professional service provides the inspection, sanding, polishing and UV sealant application without doing the work yourself. Do not compare longevity using an unsupported blanket timeline; inspect the kit's instructions and coverage alongside the professional service's stated protection and warranty.
Our mobile restoration typically takes 30–60 minutes and starts at $99.99, up to $175 depending on vehicle and condition. See the instant estimated price, view real restoration results, or contact Caleb. A submitted service request is not automatically confirmed: Caleb calls within 30–60 minutes to confirm.
When should you have the lenses checked again?
Look for returning yellowing, uneven haze, peeling or new scratches. If you notice cloudiness, first determine whether it is on the outside or inside the housing. An inspection is more useful than choosing a repeat-restoration date from a generic lifespan estimate. Call (303) 514-8037 to ask about the condition or your warranty.
Frequently asked questions
Does the three-year warranty mean headlights stay clear for exactly three years?
+
No. The service includes a three-year warranty and a ceramic UV sealant stated to protect for up to three years. Coverage and sealant protection are different; lens condition, exposure and care affect restored clarity. Ask Caleb about coverage for your vehicle.
Do all DIY kits last less time than professional restoration?
+
There is no single lifespan for all kits or professional products. Compare surface preparation, the included UV protection, product instructions and written warranty rather than assuming a fixed timeline.
Should I polish or re-coat my restored headlights every year?
+
Do not use a universal re-coating schedule. Follow your service aftercare instructions and ask about the existing sealant before polishing or applying another product.
